This is my bestselling watercolor and mixed media class on trees, and I’m happy to bring it back again — now with a brand-new recording in better quality!
If you missed it before, this is your chance to join live and paint together with me — or simply enjoy the recording afterward at your own pace.
We’ll follow the same structure as in the original class — exploring observation, composition, texture, and expression — but I’ll paint completely new trees from fresh references, so returning students will find new inspiration too.
🎥 The class will be held live on Zoom and then uploaded to the platform.
📆 The recording will be available for 6 months on the platform. But you will be able to download it to your local computer. This way you’ll have enough time to rewatch, revisit, and paint along.
🎁 Bonus Included:
You’ll also receive a special lesson on Lines and Brushwork from my large Watercolor & Mixed Media Course.
This short but powerful exercise helps you practice expressive lines for branches, develop confident gestures, and understand how brush movement defines character in your trees — an essential foundation for both sessions in this class.
✦ What’s Inside:
Part 1: Understanding Trees & Finding Composition
We begin by exploring how to observe and simplify tree shapes and plan a balanced, dynamic composition.
Observing and simplifying different tree trunk forms
Making strong composition choices for rhythm and balance
Quick sketches and composition planning
Part 2: Tree Studies – Techniques & Practice
We create 4 small watercolor studies (A4 / 8x10”) to explore variety and technique.
- Practicing different tree types and how to show volume and texture
- Layering watercolor with fountain pens, drawing pens, and watercolor pencils
- Exploring contrast, line work, and color for natural, 3D results
Part 3: Final Improvisational Painting – Large Artwork
We finish with one expressive large painting (A3 / 12x16”), where all skills come together.
- Applying everything in a loose, expressive session.
- Building composition, texture, and mixed media details
- Learning how to stay free yet intentional throughout the process
✦ Core Techniques You’ll Learn:
- Painting a variety of tree forms and textures with confidence
- Using composition choices to create flow and balance
- Building volume and depth with watercolor and drawing tools
- Developing a loose yet intentional painting style
- Making confident artistic decisions from start to finish
✦ My teaching Approach:
In this class, I share not just how I paint but why I make each choice. You’ll see my process step by step — observing, deciding, and painting — so you can understand both the technique and the mindset behind expressive, natural trees.
Along the way, I’ll share my personal tips and technical approach to painting trees — the same methods I use in my own professional work to create texture, light, and believable structure while keeping spontaneity and flow.
My goal is to help you become confident in your creative process and find joy in painting trees that feel alive and personal.
✦ This Class Is Perfect For:
- Artists who want to explore trees in an expressive, mixed-media way
- Beginners in watercolor who need a clear, inspiring foundation
- Intermediate painters looking to deepen understanding of texture, volume, and composition
After enrolling, you’ll receive access to all class materials and recordings for 6 months — enough time to revisit, experiment, and let your creativity unfold.
