This module is all about painting trees—but not in the usual way. You’ll create two versions of semi-abstract trees, each in a different color scheme, using spraying, sprinkling, and flowing paint to bring your compositions to life.

MATERIALS WE ARE GOING TO USE IN A CLASS: 

🎨 Paints

Using my usual palette – list will be provided to the students.

All the colors that I use could be replaced with others.

Maple Tree (Tree n.1)

Analogous Color Harmony Transparent: Qiunacridone Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Dark Olive Green, Azo Yellow
Semi: Transparent: Olive Green
Opaque: Bismuth Yellow (DS), Spring Green 211 (Rockwell), Cadmium Orange

Autumnal Tree (Tree n.2)

Complementary Harmony
EM 225 and EM 407 for tree crown
Ultramarine Blue and Sepia for the trunks
Brown and Bluish Grey Granulated colors by Rockwell, while brown splits to couple of colors yellows, browns and oranges and also has grey cold particles in content.
You are welcome to use your choice of colors.
Important points you have to pay attention to:
• Check the mixes to be sure you get darkest dark tonal value in mix or as pure one of one of the colors.
• Check if you have both cold and warm colors or can make your colors warmer and colder.
• Check if you could get any kinds of neutrals or grays from the colors you've chosen 

EM 225 and EM 407 for tree crown could be replaced with any other paints with granulation

🖌 Brushes

• Hake brush (goat hair or soft imitation) for wetting paper
• Your favorite watercolor brushes different sizes
• Brushes I typically use – list attached below
• It is advisable to have a liner brush with a small diameter and a long hair.
• It can be a classic liner or you could use Chinese calligraphy brushes of different sizes.    

📜 Paper & Tools

• 100% cotton, cold-press watercolor paper – 12x16” (31x41 cm)
• Bowl of water
• Spray bottle with clean water
• Paper towels
• Sea sponge
• Soft pencil (2B-3B)
• Eraser
