🦉Live Online Workshop with Sophia Rodionov

đź—“ April 18, 2026 (Saturday)
đź•– 19:00 Jerusalem Time
⏳ Duration: ~2.5–3 hours (with a short break)

The Flow Room - Included into Lapis Lazuli & Amethyst tiers.

Owls have something magical in them — quiet presence, deep gaze, almost like they are watching not just the world… but you.

In this workshop, we will explore how to paint owls in watercolor in a way that feels alive, expressive, and free, while still holding structure and volume.

We will create two large artworks (12×16”), each in a slightly different approach — combining loose watercolor flow with intentional decisions that bring clarity and character to the subject.

Before painting, we will spend time on drawing preparation, where I will guide you through:

  • how to simplify complex forms
  • how to see the owl as basic shapes and volumes
  • how to avoid getting stuck in details
  • and how to keep that feeling of freedom even in a more structured subject

Because in loose watercolor, the key is not just technique —
it’s the ability to decide:

👉 what to paint
👉 what to leave undefined
👉 and where to let watercolor speak for you

What We Will Paint

🎨 Painting 1 — Expressive Owl Study

We’ll start with a more direct and intuitive approach, focusing on:

  • capturing the character and posture
  • working with simplified shapes
  • building volume through tonal contrast
  • keeping parts of the painting open and suggestive

This piece will help you warm up and understand how to balance control and freedom.

🎨 Painting 2 — Owl with Atmosphere (Wet-on-Wet)

In the second artwork, we will go deeper into watercolor flow:

  • working on wet paper (from both sides)
  • creating soft transitions and textures
  • using water, pigment, and timing to build depth and mood
  • combining loose washes with selected sharp details

This is where the owl becomes not just a subject —
but part of a living environment of color and light.

What You Will Learn

  • how to build volume and form in a loose style
  • how to combine controlled areas + free watercolor flow
  • how to use contrast (tone, edges, texture) to guide the viewer
  • how to create a painting that feels alive, not overworked
  • how to develop your own interpretation, not just copy

Who This Workshop Is For

  • beginner in watercolor who wants to understand structure better
  • artists who feel stuck in details and want more freedom
  • those who want to achieve that “easy done”, flowing look
  • anyone who loves animals and expressive painting

Why Join Live

Painting together live creates a completely different experience —
you stay focused, you move step by step, and you can ask questions in real time.

There will be a Q&A session, and I’ll guide you through the process as if we are painting side by side.

And of course — if you can’t join live,
you will receive the full recording with lifetime access.
