🌊 Turn a Trip Into a Body of Work ✨

You come home from a trip with hundreds of photos, a head full of colors, and a feeling you can't quite name yet.
Most of it stays in your camera roll. Some of it fades.
In this class, I'll show you my process for turning a place you love into an actual series of paintings, not just one nice sketch, but a small collected body of work that holds the whole trip inside it.

This class is about more than technique. It's about learning to notice what a place is really made of, so you can carry it home and keep painting it long after the trip is over.

We'll use Santorini as our shared subject, and I'll walk you through the exact process I use myself, from the moment I take the first reference photo, all the way to a finished series ready to hang together.

This isn't a "paint this one photo with me" class.

Here we build a full process you can use for any place you travel to:

• how to collect references, memories, and impressions while you travel, not just after
• how to find the visual thread that repeats across everything you collected: colors, shapes, textures, patterns
• how to define the emotional charge of a place, so your paintings carry feeling, not just accuracy
• how to build a cohesive series, with pieces that talk to each other in size, palette, and mood
• a real, repeatable project structure you can use again for your next trip, or even a place from years ago

✨ You'll leave with a small finished series, and a system for building the next one.

🎨 What We Will Do — The Program

1️⃣ Collecting Memories
We start before the painting even begins. How to take reference photos that actually serve a painting later, tips for sketching and photographing while you travel, and everything beyond the camera worth collecting: sounds, music, a line in your diary, a feeling, a state of mind. All of it becomes material.

2️⃣ Sketching While Traveling
Practical tips for sketching on location, what to pack for a minimal travel kit, and a look at my own collected board from past trips, so you can see exactly how I use what I gather.

3️⃣ Finding the Visual Thread
Now we look for what connects everything: colors, objects, textures, patterns, and the shapes that repeat across your references. For a project, this usually means 1 to 3 main elements that carry through most of the pieces, and 2 to 5 additional ones that show up here and there. We'll also name the emotional charge behind the place, the feeling we want the series to hold.

4️⃣ Practice Santorini
Hands-on work putting it all together: defining your palette, choosing your tools, sketching, and building compositions based on everything found in the previous step.

5️⃣ The Final Project
We bring it all home into a real series, 3 to 5 pieces in different sizes, built from the sketches and decisions made throughout the class. This is where a trip becomes a collection.

100% cotton, cold press, 300 gsm

• 3 sheets, 8×10" or 9×12" (approx. 20×25 cm or 23×30 cm)

🖌 Brushes
Use the brushes you already work with and love — whatever sizes you reach for naturally for
washes and details.

🖋 Ink & Drawing Tools (in addition to watercolor)

• • Fountain pen or drawing pen in two thicknesses, for example 0.5 and 0.8, or 0.3 and 0.6
  Black and white acrylic marker with fine tip
• Pencil + eraser
• Paper for sketching thumbnails and composition

✨ Optional Texture Tools — Use What You Already Have

No need to buy anything special for this one either. Bring whatever you enjoy putting on paper:

• Watercolor pencils or regular coloring pencils
• Gouache or acrylic paint
• Acrylic markers or any markers you have
• Watercolor crayons, wax crayons, or soft pastel, anything you like for thick marks or lines
• Stencils, if you have them
• Stamps, if you have them
• Fabric or napkins, for texture
• A paint roller and cardboard
• Palette knife and masking tape
